Jialiang Wang, PhD
Assistant Professor of Neurological Surgery and Cancer Biology
Director, Neurosurgical Oncology Laboratory

Dr. Wang is an assistant professor of Neurological Surgery and directs the Neurosurgical Oncology Laboratory. His research focuses on cancers of the central nervous system. The overarching goal of his research program is to identify and develop innovative and transformative therapeutic strategies to improve treatment for glioma and other human brain cancers. His group aims at signaling pathways that mediate the therapeutic resistance of glioma stem cells, such as the Notch pathway. He is also interested in epigenetic mechanisms that critically regulate glioma biology. He believes that effective treatments for heterogenous diseases, such as glioma, need to be tailored for individual patients according to the molecular profiles of their diseases. In this regard, his laboratory uses a large panel of glioma primary samples to interrogate the links between tumor genotypes and phenotypes.

Education:
Dr. Wang obtained his doctoral degree in biochemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2005.

Post-graduate Training:
Dr. Wang received his post-graduate training in brain tumors at Duke University between 2007 and 2010.
