A brief CV of Professor Genhua Pan
Summary
I started my research career in data storage technology in 1982 in the Chinese
Academy of Science after graduation from Zhejiang University China, continued at
CRIST (Centre for Research in Information Storage Technology), University of
Plymouth from 1989. I gained my PhD in magnetic data storage technology from the
University of Plymouth in 1993, was a postdoctoral research fellow from 1993-96,
and became a lecturer in 1996. I had been a short-term visiting researcher at SONY
Research Centre and AIT of Japan a number of times from 1991-96. I was appointed
Reader in 2004 and Professor in 2006. I am now the Head of the Wolfson
Nanomaterials and Devices Laboratory. My research field encompasses key topics
from magnetic data storage technology, thin film deposition, microfabrication to
today’s nano-magnetism, spintronics and graphene technologies. We strive to forge
direct links between nanomaterials, nanophysics and its technological applications
benefitting our expertise in both nanomaterials and electronics.
Over the years, I have successfully completed a number of major research projects
funded by the EPSRC, the Royal Society, the DTI and the EU framework progremme
in total grant value of over £3M. I have authored/co-authored more than 90
journal/conference publications, 3 book chapters and 6 patents. I was the UK Project
Leader for a Royal Society-Chinese Academy of Science funded joint collaborative
project between UK and China (1999-2002); I was the project coordinator for an FP6
project with 6 European partners (2004-2008). My group also participated, as the
sole academic partner, in a recent DTI MNT funded joint project (2005-2008) led by
Aviza Technology for the successful development of StratIonTM fxP, the world's first
300-mm ready ion beam deposition system for spintronics and MRAM. I have been
serving as an independent expert reviewer and evaluator for the European
Commission. I was a committee member of the UK Magnetic Society in 2009-2010.
I am the Editor of the journal “Graphene Spintronics and Nanostructures”.
